THE EXHIBITION

The exhibition is part of the exhibition and mediation project “Voi Voi we are at an exhibition!” – a three-part project consisting of ten different exhibitions in the kunstforeninger (art associations), a mediation project and a program consisting of lectures, artist talks, film programs and concerts. The project as a whole last from September 2020 until the end of November 2021 and aims to meet a broad section of the population within all age groups.

THE ARTWORK

The exhibition “Reflekšuvnnat” shows a selection of Huuva work from 80-, 90- and 2000s, a span of 30 years. The title of the exhibition refers to the possibility the passage of time provides for reflection on themes – within an artists practice and in the compilation of works of art for an exhibition. Huuva is interested in material-based techniques with proximity to Sami crafts and duodji. The artist’s work reflects on Sami history and her own identity.

In the exhibition you will be able to see duodji and handicrafts, sculptures and objects. The artist extensively uses organic material such as leather and fur, mainly from reindeer. The works are loans from the collections of RiddoDuottarMuseat-Sami Art Magazine and Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum.

THE ARTIST

Rose-Marie Huuva has been active as a visual artist, duojár (sami crafts) and author for over 50 years and is considered a leading voice in her generation of Sami artists. She is a trained textile artist but has gradually moved on to work more three-dimensionally and has created a distinctive sculptural expression. By exploring materials such as reindeer skins, she has developed new methods.

The exhibition is curated by Kristoffer Dolmen, director of the Sami Center for Contemporary Art / SámiDáiddaguovddáš.
