Artist talk

On Saturday, September 7th, there will be an engaging presentation and artist talk featuring the Norwegian-Kurdish artist Kwestan Jamal Bawan and the Sámi artist Hilde Skancke Pedersen. Both are mature women who have gained recognition for their art later in life. They each use different techniques in their work and are continuously exploring new forms of expression. They both possess a strong drive and momentum in their respective artistic careers.

Kwestan is from Kurdistan, and like the Sámi people, the Kurds live across four countries. Kwestan creates abstract works that nonetheless reflect the Kurds’ situation and their longing for freedom. Her works have been acquired by institutions such as the KODE Art Museum in Bergen. Hilde is well-known to many in Sápmi for her work in the Sámi Parliament’s plenary hall and foyer, and she is more active than ever. Hilde is currently completing a large artwork for the new Hammerfest hospital, and she is a prolific exhibitor both domestically and internationally.

The artists look forward to meeting and speaking with the audience in Karasjok. Join us for a wonderful time at the Sámi Center for Contemporary Art (SDG) on Saturday, September 7th, at 1:00 PM. Light refreshments will be served.

Everyone is welcome!
