THE EXHIBIBTION: EN HOP MATERIELLA AVBILDER AV VÄRLDEN SOM SKYMTAR I SINNETS PERIFERI.
Olof Marsja (b. 1986, Gällivare, Sweden) works with sculptural expressions that analyze and mix the ultra-modern contemporary digital reality and pop culture with history and traditions related to his Sámi heritage and Duodji (Sámi crafts).
THE ARTIST & THE ART
Crafts and materials are central to Marsja’s research, and his works are deeply marked by the diversity of practical knowledge and references characterizing the hybrid forms in which he seriously and humorously analyzes questions related to history, the contemporary world and identity.
Marsja is graduated at Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts & Design, Stockholm (2017) and he has received the Scholarship of Maria Bonnier Dahlin in 2019. He has exhibited his works at Göteborgs Konsthall (2020), Bonniers Konsthall (Stockholm, 2019), Steinsland-Berliner Gallery ( Stockholm, 2019), Luleå Biannual (2018) among others. This exhibition here at Sami Center for Contemporary Art is Marsja’s first separate institutional exhibition, and he will also be mentioned at an important research program at Rösshka Museum of Arts and Crafts ( Gothenburg, 2021). Olof Marsja lives and works in Göteborg (Gothenburg), Sweden.
