Ansgar Ole Olsen (b. 1952, Lyngen) works with metal sculptures. He has worked with metal constructions in Tromsø and received his art education from the Norwegian School of Arts and Crafts (Noregs Kunsthåndverksskule) and the National Academy of Craft and Art Industry (Statens håndverks- og kunstindustriskole) (1982 – 1986).
Olsen combines the reuse of materials from old machines, vehicles, tools, and agricultural implements with a modernist visual language. His works in stainless, painted, or weathered rusted steel address objects, motifs, and materials from industrial history, labor history, and coastal culture, presented in a stylized, abstracted, and often playful form.
Olsen has had solo exhibitions at several art centers in the country and has participated in numerous group exhibitions regionally and nationally. His works have been featured in “Collect” at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London and several other international exhibitions. Much of Olsen’s artistic practice has involved larger decorative art commissions for both public and private projects, such as at Sommerlyst Secondary School in Tromsø, the Sami Science Building in Kautokeino, and Bodø Airport.
Olsen’s works have been acquired by the National Museum, the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design in Trondheim (Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum), the Northern Norwegian Art Museum (Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum), the Norwegian Arts Council (Norsk kulturråd), as well as the counties of Oppland and Hedmark. He lives and has a workshop in Østre Toten.
