The “Tool-kit: Curating Indigenous Art” project investigates multiple perspectives on curating artistic research projects that involve indigenous artists. On 27 November 2022, “Tool-kit: Curating Indigenous Art” will present two public lectures.
10.00—Lecture by Prof. Gunvor Guttorm
The theme of the lecture is curating research projects, such as AIDA and AIDA II. Gunvor Guttorm is a professor of duodji at the Sámi University College in Guovdageaidnu/Kautokeino (Norway). She has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses in duodji, both practically and theoretically, at the college level. The lecture is planned to take place in person; a Teams link will be made available for remote attendees. Language: Sami.

14.00—Lecture by Prof. Melanie Sarantou
The theme of this lecture is curating research within the Margin to Margin project. Prof. Melanie Sarantou is a research fellow for the European Commission H2020-funded project Acting on the Margin: Art as Social Sculpture (AMASS). Her research and art explore concepts of marginality, which can be defined by remoteness and conditions of isolation and migration emphasized by the geography of the Arctic and the far south. “…empathy within communities of research is not a given, but an ongoing process. Once formed, it requires ongoing activities and revision of interest and agency, much like the ethical issues of informed consent…” (Sarantou, Akimenko, & Escudeiro, 2018).
