The inaugural edition of the Sámi triennála, spanning from 2024 to 2026, unites prominent art venues across Norway, Sweden and Finland, including the Rovaniemi Art Museum, the KIN Museum for Contemporary Art in Kiruna, the Sami Center for Contemporary Art, Nordlandsmuseet in Bodø, as part of Bodø European Culture Capital 2024, and Oulu Art Museum, as part of the Oulu European Culture Capital 2026. Sami art, deeply rooted in tradition and identity, serves as a vital force in the cross–border dialogue between Norway, Sweden and Finland, showcasing its rich cultural heritage and contemporary artistic expression. With increasing international recognition, the Sámi triennála is emerging as a vital platform uniting Sami artists from Finland, Sweden and Norway, alongside the leading art institutions of the region.
Designed to engage a diverse audience, the Sámi triennála welcomes experts in Sami art, including artist–researchers, curators, art historians and practising artists, both locally and globally, fostering dynamic exchanges and exploration within the realm of Sami artistic expression.
The Sámi triennála at the Sami Center for Contemporary Art, with project management and curating by Marija Griniuk, is supported by Kulturdirektoratet and Nordisk Kulturfond.
