a film screening and artist talk with Hedda Kristine Bremseth.
Tears in Battle / Hearts of Steel (30 min)

Hedda Bremseth navigates the theme of identity with humor in Tears in Battle / Hearts of Steel. A
conversation about the artist’s idolization of the band The Prodigy as a youth is intercut with
documentation of fans traveling to a concert by the metal band Manowar in Svalbard. Bremseth
steps into the center of events in a burlesque manner. She stands on the bar counter cheering,
organizes a march through the town, and drinks beer with the visiting fans. Through her interaction with the environment,
Bremseth shows how identity is tied to being part of a community.

About the Artist: Bremseth’s previous works and artistic practice are a blend of performance, film,
and stand-up comedy, where she is both the protagonist and the director. She uses herself as a
research subject, moving between human peripheries and borderlands. She breaks down the
boundaries between documentary and staging, between fiction and fact, leaving a sense of
ambiguity and unease. Her films point to a loneliness and alienation that everyone can recognize at times.
