She is doing her doctorate in the Department of Art at Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture in Helsinki. Her work in 2016 included text-based performances in Geneva, Switzerland and Warsaw, Poland as well as in Byron Bay and Melbourne in Australia, and collective editing and writing of the publication No play Feminist Training Camp (nGbK, Berlin, 2017). She was selected for the Transfer North curatorial and critical writing residency programme (residencies in Galleri Syster, Luleå and Sámi Dáiddaguovddáš/Sámi Center For Contemporary Art, Karasjok, both in 2017). She is the drummer of a feminist metal band Lithalsa.

In the three weeks residency in Sámi Dáiddaguovddáš Vappu Jalonen will concentrate mainly on research and learning but she will also begin to produce a new text and sound work, inspired by an old recording studio in the building of the center.
